Coronavirus Wrexham Wetherspoon customers told 'watch out for symptoms'
Customers at a Wetherspoon pub are being told to look out for Covid-19 symptoms after three staff tested positive.
Public Health Wales said anyone who visited the North and South Wales Bank in Wrexham between 9-20 August must self-isolate if they get symptoms.
Wetherspoon said one staff member tested positive after coming into contact with someone while not at work.
PHW said it was investigating the causes of the three cases.
Meanwhile the first minister has said he will “not hesitate” to implement a local lockdown if necessary.
Dr Graham Brown, from PHW, said while there was “no evidence of transmission to customers at this stage” it was advising customers to be “vigilant for symptoms” and book a test straight away if they became ill.
“The identification of these cases is evidence that the Test, Trace, Protect strategy is working, and no outbreak has been declared,” he said.
While the pub remains open, all members of staff are now self-isolating for 14 days, and it is being run by workers from other pubs in Wales.
In a statement JD Wetherspoon said the first member of staff at the Wrexham pub tested positive after coming into contact with someone, outside of the pub, who had shown symptoms.
In a statement it said that 11 employees, who had been in close contact with the staff member, had been asked to self isolate. Two of them tested positive on 18 August while in isolation.
“Since reopening in Wales on 3 August, Wetherspoon has implemented a number of social distancing measures in all pubs,” it said.
“Tables have been spaced out, floor screens have been installed between tables, as well as “till surround screens” at the bar.
“Staff are conducting regular surface cleaning and, on average, 10 hand sanitisers have been installed in each pub, with additional units back of house for staff.
“Wetherspoon is grateful for the cooperation and assistance of Wrexham County Borough Council, Public Health Wales and the Communicable Disease Control Service in this case.”
