Detectives have launched an appeal for witnesses after a woman was knocked unconscious when a glass bottle was smashed over her head on the London Underground.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the woman was assaulted on a Central Line train between Shepherds Bush and Liverpool Street at about 15:30 GMT on 2 December.

The force said a woman sat next to the victim, and the pair started arguing before the woman punched the victim in the head repeatedly, scratched her face and pulled her hair.

BTP said it wanted to speak to three members of the public who restrained the woman.

The three people moved the woman away, but she returned to the victim and started to stamp on her feet, BTP said.

She then poured a bottle of juice over the victim and smashed an empty glass bottle over her head, causing her to lose consciousness.

The force appealed for witnesses to call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 41 of 26 December, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
